Cala Genovesi takes its name from the Maritime Republic of Genoa, which in the 13th century defeated the Maritime Republic of Pisa and took control of the Pisan territories in Sardinia. It is believed that here, in this sheltered bay, the Genoese planned the construction of a “fondaco,” a warehouse-house intended to facilitate trade and maritime activities. This place is also marked by a tragic event: on April 23, 1943, during World War II, the Allies bombed the port, killing 13 people and injuring many residents.
Curiosità
In summer it is the venue for the “Cal’a Cinema” event: a film series screened in a truly unique setting.

The adjacent Maritime Station has on various occasions hosted video projections to promote local events.
