Welcome to S’Ortali ’e su Monti, where three thousand years of history come to life. As you arrive, you’ll first see the Domus de Janas, the “Fairy House” carved into the rock during the Late Neolithic.

A short walk brings you to the grand Nuragic complex, built of rough granite blocks. Its central tholos tower now stands 5.5 meters tall but may once have soared to 20 meters—taller even than the famous Su Nuraxi in Barumini. Around this main tower, a thick defensive wall encloses three smaller towers, and just beyond you can make out the foundations of about ten ancient huts.

Continuing on, you’ll encounter three standing menhirs and a megalithic circle—mysterious stones once arranged for rituals and gatherings. Nearby is the “Giants’ Tomb,” a long, narrow burial chamber where the community laid their dead to rest.

At the heart of the site is Sardinia’s largest Nuragic granary. On a specially prepared platform, ten underground silos once held the village’s grain, and large storage jars stood inside the huts. Almost every hut contains grinding stones, reminders of the daily work of turning grain into flour to feed the settlement.

As you move among these ancient stones, imagine the farmers, craftsmen, and priests who made S’Ortali ’e su Monti a thriving center of life and ceremony for over a millennium.
